Human Resource Executive® has been recognized for over 30 years as the premier publication focused on strategic issues in Human Resources.  Written primarily for vice presidents and directors of human resources, the magazine provides these key decision-makers with news, profiles of HR visionaries and success stories of human resource innovators. Stories cover all areas of human resource management, including HR technology, talent management, benefits and healthcare, training and development, relocation, retirement planning, and employment law.  We are currently looking for a Managing Editor to oversee the magazine’s daily publishing operation including the supervision of members of the editorial team.


The Managing Editor combines the creativity of a writer with the practical focus of an operations manager and ensures that stories are compelling and written for a senior-executive audience.  In addition, the Managing Editor will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Editor/Co-Publisher on determining editorial strategy, plan, and issue content
  • Managing magazine and website operations
  • Hiring, coaching and supervising staff writers
  • Generating story ideas for the magazine and website
  • Writing feature articles for the magazine and news analysis stories for the website
  • Overseeing copy editing of stories, ensuring the magazine and web stories are error-free and of high quality
  • Making assignments and enforcing deadlines for staff and freelancer writers/editors
  • Working with graphic services on art selection and story layout for the magazine
  • Traveling to and covering professional conferences

Position Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS/BA in Journalism or related field
  • 7 years of experience writing and editing
  • 2 years of experience in a management role
  • Familiarity with InDesign or similar software
  • Proven ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work successfully and productively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Previous experience managing staff and coordinating operations to achieve objectives
  • Familiarity with the topic of technology
  • Ability to travel to conferences


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience writing and editing about technology
  • Experience with WordPress or similar software
