In addition, our attendees get the opportunity to connect face-to-face with peers from other agencies from across the nation to share ideas and discuss solutions to common problems; as well as the rare opportunity to participate in Town Hall Conversations where they hear from and speak directly with leaders of the EEOC, FLRA, MSPB, OPM and OSC.

ABOUT THE POSITION: 

We're seeking a Federal Conference Programmer to oversee the full-scope programming of this large-scale, annual and national FDR Training conference. By curating engaging programming and managing all program scheduling, you’ll help us bring to the stage the most relevant speakers for our selective audience. This will also include developing 50-70 conference sessions and events during 4 days with approximately 1,000-1,300 federal-sector professionals.

Responsibilities

Management:

  • Lead the FDR Advisory Board, consisting of 20+ members, and schedule and attend all board meetings located in Washington, D.C., roughly 3-4 times per year
  • Regularly contact board members, sources, etc. for feedback on topics and speakers
  • Create, write and develop the full conference program; design sessions to fill the needs of our attendees and add them to the eShow system, meeting all deadlines set by Marketing department
  • Review speaker proposals through eShow; select a keynote speaker within budget; select all additional speakers for 50-70 conference sessions
  • Prepare and send formal invitations to agency leaders to speak at Town Hall Conversations
  • Travel to and attend the conference, troubleshoot and resolve any speaker and on-site issues, and act as a liaison with Conference staff 

Communications:

  • Maintain regular, consistent verbal / written communications with all scheduled speakers
  • Communicate all program developments to Marketing and Conference divisions, and coordinate regularly with the Conference team
  • Coordinate the Editorial staff who will attend the Conference
  • Keep Editorial staff advised of conference developments through the year
  • Report regularly to Editorial and LRP management on status of conference developments

Writing / Editing:

  • Write and present speaker preparation webinar
  • Write Welcome Letter for Show Guide, scripts, housekeeping notes, etc.
  • Write coverage of the conference and events, including social media postings
  • Edit conference-related marketing materials, speaker PowerPoints and other materials as needed

Position Requirements

  • BA Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • At least 5+ years of experience working in the Federal Employment sector
  • You have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to write, edit and present content to a targeted audience.
  • As a strong networker, you have experience in booking speakers, coaching them through the process and reviewing decks to help ensure their presentations have maximum impact with our attendees.
  • You’re well-connected in the federal employment law and compliance sector and understand who the key government officials and thought leaders are that we should be inviting to speak at our conference.
  • As an excellent communicator, you have experience managing a multitude of personalities and needs with the utmost respect.
  • You have examples of how you’ve helped large events run smoothly and efficiently and how you’ve helped enrich the programming. 
  • You share a commitment to diversity in our speaker lineups and think beyond the standard conference format, incorporating different types of sessions that help attendees network and learn in new and interesting ways.
  • Strong writing / editing skills
  • MS Office / PowerPoint

  • Experience with large-scale event programming within a conference space. 
  • You’re excited and deeply involved with building out strong live programming.
  • You appreciate working in a position that allows you to shape the big picture and strategic thinking, and ensure the finer details get the required attention.
  • You have a strong sense of ownership and urgency, along with consistent and thorough attention to detail.
  • You have a keen ability to manage competing and changing priorities.

  • You have the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, and you enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams and a wide range of people.
