Overview

LRP Media Group is looking for an experienced and passionate Managing Editor to lead the online editorial operations of its Education group and oversee various newsletters and special publications.

 

This leadership role requires a hands-on editor with a deep understanding of journalism, strong editorial judgment, and excellent organizational and communication skills. The Managing Editor will guide a team of writers and copyeditors to produce high-quality content across print and digital platforms.

 

This position requires two days a week in the Palm Beach Gardens office, Monday & Thursday, with additional planned days in the office for training, meetings, or other business needs.

Responsibilities

Editorial Leadership:

  • Plan, assign, and oversee editorial content for two subscription-based websites.
  • Report on breaking education news that is relevant and timely.
  • Develop story ideas that reflect subscriber interests and uphold journalistic integrity.
  • Maintain editorial standards of accuracy, fairness, and clarity.

Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of writers, copyeditors, and support personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Recruit and onboard new talent as needed.

Content Creation and Review:

  • Edit and proofread articles for grammar, style, and factual accuracy.
  • Ensure content aligns with the LRP's mission and audience expectations.
  • Write articles, create content as needed.

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the publisher and vice president on long-term editorial strategy and goals, and to develop and execute editorial calendars/posting schedules.
  • Adapt content strategies to align with changing reader needs and industry trends.
  • Monitor analytics to drive engagement and readership growth.

Community Engagement:

  • Represent LRP Media Group at its national conferences.
  • Build relationships with subscribers and national speakers.
  • Respond to subscriber feedback and inquiries professionally.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in editorial roles.
  • 3 years managing an in-house editorial team
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule in the Palm Beach Gardens, FL office 
  • Familiarity with project management systems (Wrike)
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • A commitment to upholding ethical journalism practices.
  • Annual Travel to company conferences and attending industry events as needed is required. This may involve travel outside of regular working hours and on weekends.
